Ds7 was diagnosed in March after DKA, and two weeks ago over half term he came down with a horrible virus.
He had ketones on and off all week, and ever since then his numbers have been sky high.
Corrections aren't working, his numbers are staying up, his team doesn't want to adjust the correction insulin ratio, I've adjusted his long lasting Insluin, I've adjusted his carb ratios and STILL NO LUCK.
His school aren't doing his care correctly, some days they are amazing and other days it's like they don't have the time and don't bother to check and correct him after lunch time which causes me more stress as he comes home high as a kite and it's even harder to bring him down.
He eventually came down just before dinner, I do his insulin, I give him a quick bath (which usually gets his numbers in range), and he's high as a kite. AGAIN.
He's only in range in the mornings before breakfast and through the night. This is a joke. What am I supposed to do?
I hate it, I feel like this disease has robbed me and my boy of a normal life.

Bless you. It's hard when they are little and it's all still quite new for you. Things will become easier in time. Is he on CGM? I would ask for one to track and see patterns, also ask your team about pump options. Technology helps a lot with management. I would also ask the team to talk to school and give training. There are a number of Facebook support groups you may want to look to join - very friendly and full of support.

A few things to try - double check that his pens are working - try a new pen if it isn't going down - this often happens to DH in the heat. Once it's got too warm it's no good. Get him to drink more water too as that can often bring it down a bit more. And try things that boost his immune system, it could be the virus still shedding.

(Sorry if all the above is things you've already tried/know!). I hope he feels better soon!

Sympathies to you and your son - T1 is hard, there’s no arguing with that. I’m 65 and have had it most of my life, it’s bloody relentless and sometimes it gets overwhelming. Even when you do everything right, you can still sometimes get results you’re not expecting and struggle to get back on track. All sorts of things affect your numbers - try not to take it personally and don’t think you’re not doing it right, sometimes it’s just like that. You’re still in the early days and it will get easier for both of you, honestly. Does he have a Libre sensor…?

As far as the high numbers now, it could be that the remnants of the virus are still lurking in there somewhere, and you could well find that once it’s gone his numbers will go back to normal quite quickly. Could be the hot weather too. Or granny’s chakras in the wrong house…🙄 Just keep on monitoring things, correct if you feel it’s necessary, but try not to make too many changes at once, or you won’t know what’s working or not. After all that, don’t panic - you’ll probably find it sorts itself out soon anyway. Good luck.

Maybe ask your team about switching to a faster acting insulin. Some of the alleged fast acting insulin aren't particularly fast at all.
Do you pre-bolus before eating? If not maybe try to give insulin a bit more in advance of eating and let it start to work before the food does. Obviously only do this if numbers are not too low at the time.
Sympathies and 💐 It's exhausting and messes with your head.
I fully expect to be dealing with a delayed pizza spike in the early hours so I feel your pain!🙄

He's on fiasp so one the faster acting ones so can eat pretty much within the 5 minutes.
He's not on a Cgm, I'm waiting for dexcom training so he can have the G6 which makes it harder as I never know where he's sitting at, at least with a dexcom I can track from home or wherever and ring school to correct him. I think that's what's stressing me out.

Ironically he came down last night and had a nasty hypo that took 40 minutes to come out of, followed by another hypo 3 hours later. 😣 Just hate it so badly, he still eats like a normal kid but I just want to give him pizza and not think I'm going to need to correct in 2 hours and 2 hours after that. Might start blousing if he's high before dinner and letting it work that's a good idea thank you.

Diabetes is a bitch. My 11 year old has it. It does get better but we have also been battling the highs lately and now with the warm weather we are starting to battle the lows. It’s just a horrible disease and there’s not a day I don’t wish I could have it instead of my child.
