Could this be diabetes? (After gestational diabetes)

Hi. I had my son 19 months ago. I had gestational diabetes, diagnosed at 28 weeks. I was a healthy weight and age 28, but had PCOS so they tested me. Was put on insulin at about 35 weeks.

I was tested for diabetes after about 6 months and all was fine.

Im now experiencing some symptoms I’m worried could be diabetes? I have admittedly been eating quite badly since I’ve had my son and have gained quite a bit of weight, maybe 1.5 stone possibly more :(. I know this isn’t advised after GD but I haven’t really thought about it and found it quite hard to adjust. Before pregnancy my diet was very restricted (I suffered eating disorders and often starved myself and ate way too much fruit) so now I’m overweight.

Ive had a tingling feeling in my back for about a year now. Doctors have always put it down to the way I pick up my son, posture etc. I now need to wake up constantly during the night to go to the toilet, sometimes every half an hour. I feel twinges in my muscles, and sometimes get really bad leg cramps that keep me up at night. I also feel thirsty during the day but not sure if this is because the weather is just hotter, and I don’t drink enough water. I’m exhausted waking up in the morning, even though my son now sleeps through the night. I’ve never had issues with waking up in the morning until recently, even when he was waking up 5/6 times.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m only 30 now so not sure how likely diabetes is but I’m completely convinced I have it and scared of doing the test?

Apologies for the long post and thanks for any help.

Have you had your hba1c tested?

If you’re worried it’s better to be tested sooner than later.
