I've just checked my blood results on my doctors app and my HbA1C has come back as 135mmol so I am definitely diabetic. I knew I was, PCOS, and GD twice, plus I'm very overweight. I had asked my GP for Ozempic for weight loss which triggered him wanting me to check for diabetes first. Does anyone know if I can be just given Ozempic for diabetes straight away? I've had Metformin for PCOS in the past and can't tolerate it.

I'm Type 2 . I don't know about Ozempic but as for Metformin , I was given this over 20 years ago when first diagnosed . No toleration, spent so much time on the loo.

However , this was changed to Metformin SR [slow release] which is much gentler and had no ill effects , still taking it now . A large number cannot tolerate Metformin in its original form .

I've had the slow release one and can't tolerate it. Appt with GP tomorrow so I'm going to ask for Ozempic

Hi OP, That HbA1c is extremely high. I wouldn't have thought Ozempic would be the first thing they would prescribe because that HbA1c needs to come down asap. Ozempic is also in short supply at the moment.

@PerfectYear321 yes you're right, I've spoken to GP this morning and apparently bloods showed I was diabetic 4 years ago but nobody at the surgery told me. GP is taking it to the practice manager for investigation. I have to be started on Insulin asap

Oh gosh, sorry to hear this!
Did she say what your sugars were four years ago?
Women with pcos are meant to have annual health checks precisely because you're at higher risk of diabetes.

PerfectYear321 · 05/06/2023 13:15

And even if you didn't have pcos women who had GD are meant to have annual bloods to test for diabetes. Your surgery has really let you down ☹️

Four years ago they were 62! So a massive jump. I'll make a complaint but not sure what it'll achieve. Feel so let down by them.
