Type 2 diabetic and painful toes/foot

DH had his diabetic review a couple of months ago. All OK, no increase in Metformin or anything. However his toes on one foot have become very painful. Sent email to surgery and got a reply back saying make an appointment with inhouse physio. Will do this but has anyone had success with this. Is there any medication that might help. We're trying Nurofen and paracetamol.

I know it’s the obvious question but has he had any new footwear’s at all?
We had someone who came saying he had pain at a point on several toes. Turns out his new shoes were slightly narrower and the pressure was causing pain, even after taking them off for the day.

Longer than usual nails that cause the toe of the shoe to press against the end of the nail can also cause toe pain. Does he ever see anyone at the hospital diabetic team at all?
I guess he will have to see what physio say but, if they can’t find anything obvious he will have to ask for a referral to podiatry, or maybe ask GP for a blood test for Uric acid? Interestingly I recently read an article about metformin causing low B12 -that can cause sore feet, although I’d assume both not just one, but a blood test for B12 levels could be useful too.

I don’t know what else he could try for the pain until he’s got to the root of the cause tbh.

Any swelling? Colour change? Does anything make it better or worse?

Sorry only just seen your replies. He does see a podiatrist every six weeks. No new shoes. Says its more of a nerve pain. Interestingly tonight I was moisturising his feet. He had a corn removed from under the toe of one foot. I looked tonight and there is a hole there, bit like an ulcer but not really wet. Wonder whether I should get him an appointment with the podiatrist again or just put a dressing under it. Its in the foot where the toes are painful. Not sure whether there is any connection but I suppose there could be.

I would think it's worth having that checked by podiatry. Not worth the risk with diabetic feet.

An ulcer can look dry. Please contact the podiatrist asap. They are the best ones to look at it.
