Diabetes and conceiving

Does anyone know what levels should be before you're safe to conceive.

I was diagnosed t2 during my first pregnancy and put on high doses of insulin). Post pregnancy my h1bac was 53 and sugars sitting just above range for healthy for a diabetic (fastings were about 7.5) .

I've had a surge in my sugars (fasting now about 12) and we were thinking about ttc in about March. I have an appt with the nurse on Tues but worried we will have to put off plans.

Anyone had any experience and can tell me what to expect

You really need to get your levels below 53 before trying to conceive if you want to reduce the risk of problems for you or your baby during pregnancy and birth. I think in all honesty March is a bit soon, sorry, if that’s your fasting levels at the minute. Ideally working closely with your care team for a few months and optimising control is the safest thing to do. High blood sugars preconception increase the risk of some serious health problems with your baby, so it really is important to not rush. Ask your nurse if there is a diabetes preconception clinic they can refer you to. You’ll also need to take high dose folic acid, ideally for at least a month pre conceiving, so will need a prescription for that. Good luck.
