Seriously? Do you have anybody with you? If so get them to drive you to A&E. If not call for an ambulance. Don't take chances with this, it's potentially really dangerous!

bbcdefg · 18/09/2022 16:49

You need to get medical attention. Ring an ambulance.

Anotherunimaginativeusername · 18/09/2022 16:50

You need to be seen at A&E, please get someone to take you there now or if not possible call 999.

HappyHamsters · 18/09/2022 16:51

Hospital jobby, you need close monitoring with fluids and insulin. Call an ambulance please.

LIZS · 18/09/2022 16:56

You need monitoring in hospital. Sugary drinks won't help now.

Metabigot · 18/09/2022 17:00

OK I'll phone 11q. Medical advice online is that if it goes over 1.5 to go to hospital so I'll see what they say

Last time it was 6 and I couldn't hold dien even a sip

No! Not 111.

999 NOW.

this is an emergency. This is what they are here for. Ring now.

TickTockBaby · 18/09/2022 17:01

1.5 refers to blood ketones @Metabigot
What are your ketones and BG?
Do you have anyone there with you??

WinterCarlisle · 18/09/2022 17:05

You need to call 999 now.

Metabigot · 18/09/2022 17:11

I don't have a blood ketometer. Only a wee stick. Blood sugar around 12

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 18/09/2022 17:16

Call 999! come on, stop messing around on mumsnet and get some actual help before you kill yourself!

GlitterB0mb · 18/09/2022 17:18

I hope you've called 999 and if possible get someone to be with you if there isn't someone already

CatLadyDrinksGin · 18/09/2022 17:19

Call 999. You don’t mess about with diabetic ketoacidosis.

TickTockBaby · 18/09/2022 17:19

Are you managing to keep anything down?
Are you taking anything else for your diabetes? Any orals?
When did you last correct?
If you're not feeling confident re managing (understandably!) definitely get some support

abovedecknotbelow · 18/09/2022 17:31

DKA is a 999/ a and e job. tBh it's worrying you don't know that. Get help now and I hope you are ok.

Butterfly44 · 18/09/2022 17:34

Call an ambulance now. DKA is serious. It doesn't matter about your BG number as that's not indicative of ketones. Wee strips are not accurate - urine is hours old - and you've no blood ketone meter. You need to be in A&E.

TickTockBaby · 18/09/2022 17:47

if in doubt get support.

Metabigot · 18/09/2022 17:59

I've got a lot better than I was so they are getting out of hours doctor ti call me in 2h
If he says togi hospital I will

TickTockBaby · 18/09/2022 18:04

I'm so pleased to read that.
Check BG regularly, and keep in mind the sick day rules above.
If you don't have anyone there IRL you really need too.

LIZS · 18/09/2022 18:06

Metabigot · 18/09/2022 16:46

Sorry for spelling errors confused and discoordinated too

That in itself is a cause for concern, if you have sickness, erratic blood sugar and ketones with diabetes,

Shittytittybangbang · 18/09/2022 20:42

Diabetic here. With support you may be able to deal with at home. However, your mistakes indicate a clear level of confusion and blurred vision suggests greater impairment than your stats suggest. Always suggest you veer on the side of caution. Don’t take risks with your life. If unsure call 999 not 111.Hope you continue to get better. Please learn from what has happened this time- perhaps ask for an online course to refresh you basic knowledge eg DAFNE or BERTIE

Metabigot · 19/09/2022 11:48

Update. I got my ketone down at home and could even manage some food so did manage to get better without attending hospital.

Maybe a risk you wouldn't personally take but I've had proper KDA before (3days icu) and had it got worse I would have gone in for sure.

That time I couldn't hold down any fluids at all but this time knowing fluid/ insulin can get it down in the early stages I wanted to give that a chance

OP posts:
TickTockBaby · 19/09/2022 20:33

So pleased to hear you're doing well OP.
Going forward maybe take some time to reflect- what causative factors can you identify in hindsight?
Go back to basics- how is your injection technique?
Any issues with sites?
Are you effectively carb counting?
Is your insulin timing and concordance correct?

Brush up on the sick day rules, get a blood ketone meter (you should be able to get this from the DSN team in your area) get a face to face appointment with your DSN too.
