Evidence of link between T1D and GD?

Just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of solid information about whether or not there is an established link between a family history of type 1 diabetes (not T2 - no-one in my family has that) and GD. Everyone seems to assume that there will be, but in three pregnancies, no HCP I've questioned has actually been able to tell me about evidence linking T1D (as an autoimmune condition) with elevated GD risk. I've seen material about GD increasing T1D risk in the child, and about increased T1 and T2 risk to women with a previous GD diagnosis, but not about whether having siblings with T1D makes me more likely to develop GD (which I didn't in either previous pregnancy).

Thank you!

I'm one of three and my two siblings have type 1. I was classed as high risk for GD .. I don't see the relation at all
type 1 is genetic and autoimmune
It always baffled me ..

Although they said if I got GD it could turn to type 1 .....

Never went along with it

I was fine :)

What difference does it make? If you are deemed high risk for GD it just means you have to do the test for GD. If that test is negative nothing happens. If it’s positive you’d rather know, surely. Apologies if I am missing something.

As far as I can see the studies tend to look at whether a family history of “diabetes” (not divided into t1 and t2) makes GD more likely. I guess this is because many people may know there was diabetes in the family but would not know whether it was T1 or T2 - especially in the past.

@minipie I wasn't asking for advice about whether I should have the test though (obviously I did, as important to know). I asked because I was interested in the nature of the link between T1D and GD, as on the face of it they seem to be quite different diseases, but I have never been able to track down any relevant information.

I'm no longer pregnant but would still be very interested to learn more about this. Otherwise, I'm mildly curious to see someone digging up a relatively old thread, apparently just to chide me for refusing a GTT (except I didn't refuse it).

Apologies, I hadn’t realised it was an old thread - it came up in active for me, no idea why.

I wasn’t chiding you for refusing a GTT, but yes I assumed you were querying the need for one based on your comments about questioning HCPs and no evidence of a link, and given it is the only practical reason for needing to know. Again, apologies, I now understand it is simply of academic interest to you.
