Foot pain

Looking for some advice. I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, though I suspect that I have had it for some time. I have been referred to the diabetic team, but as of yet I haven’t had an appointment. The thing is, I’m in severe pain with my right foot. The ball of my foot is very painful to walk on and I am really struggling. I have very dry hard skin on my feet, so they have been painful before, but nothing like this.

For information, I was in a car accident 5 years ago, which exacerbated a congenital spinal condition I had. Prior to this I was quite active, worked full time and played sport several times a week. Now I am registered disabled and have put on 5 stones meaning I am classed as obese. I am on very strong painkillers, due to the spinal condition (Morphine, Duloxetine, Gabapentin, Amitriptylin, plus Severodol for breakthrough pain), but these don’t help the pain in my foot, which is still very sore.

I am wondering if the pain in my foot is down to the diabetes? Would be grateful for any advice.

I would say you need to get your foot checked urgently to make sure its not any sort of ulcer developing or anything which is what they worry about with diabetes. You can also get nerve pain in your foot with diabetes which is not so urgent but obviously a problem your diabetes nurse could advise on.
The other thing is it could be unrelated to the diabetes but some kind of nerve pain related to your spinal condition. Nerves near the base of the spine can affect the foot or you could have hurt it due to a tight tendon in your leg or something like that. If your posture is affected by your condition that could mean you end up hurting yourself in some way.

Thanks @PartyPrawnRingGames I have checked my foot and I don’t think I have an ulcer forming, but will get in touch with my gp and ask him to have a look at it, as I don’t have a diabetes nurse yet.
