Reactive hypoglycaemia

My dd (12) has a few endocrine issues. The latest seems to be her blood sugars. We’ve been told she has reactive hypoglycaemia. When she eats, her insulin is pumped out and she gets hypos.

No one has told me what to do though. They say give her some Orange juice and a cheese sandwich for example. But no one has said what I do in the long term.

I feel like I’m fire fighting!!

Tonight she told me she felt dizzy wnd sweaty. I checked her sugars and they were 1.9!!
I got them back to normal (7.9) within an hour but it’s unsettling.

I just don’t know what to do!!

You make an appointment with the doctor or nurse dealing with this and you ask them.

I have. And they just booked her in for tests in November and told me to adjust with diet. But to have a random one of 1.9?! Isn’t that dangerous?

I have this and have been given no support beyond being told to control with diet, then being discharged with no ongoing monitoring etc. Interested to know if you get anything better than that!

I have this and was told to cut out all sugars as it can cause the body to pump extra insulin and can cause the hypos and I was told to eat every 4 hours. Beyond that I was just told to get on with it.

So isn’t a hypo dangerous? I mean, in someone without diabetes?

I’m so naive to this but the way I see it is that it’s being overlooked..despite lows of 1.9!

I used to have a mild case of this. Small meals more often helped. No big carb loads.

The orange juice and cheese sandwich thing is helpful because the orange juice will give an instant sugar hit and the cheese sandwich will provide the longer term blood sugar stability.
