symptoms for pre-diabetic?

I'm aware that some diabetics have symptoms like numbness in feet and toes but does this happen for possible pre-diabetic?

I was visiting my parents and mentioned that I have occasional stabbing pains in my big toes and mild numbness in some of my other toes. My dad is diabetic and has had numbness in his whole foot but no pains in his big toe like mine. My dad uses a monitor to test his sugar levels so he decided to test mine.

Before we had lunch my level was 5.3 and about a half hour after lunch my level was 8.9 just before I left it was back down to 5.2. I was there the whole day from around 8am to 7pm when I left.

I am having my yearly glucose test on Monday (yes I'm overweight) and it's always been in normal range. Should I mention this to the Dr. when I have my next appointment? just wondering if it could be caused by something else.

They look like perfect numbers to be honest. Not sure about the feet.

Normal testing time post food is 2 hours. How much you rise depends on what and how much you eat - especially the type of carbs and if you are mixing it with fat.

Numb and/or sore feet can be a symptom of consistently high blood sugars, but most people who are “pre-diabetic” probably won’t have high enough levels for that.

Your Dad should get checked though. What is his control like? If he is on metformin then it can affect absorption of B12, that can affect feet, he should get his blood checked as well as ask for a check of his feet.

thanks for the info on my numbers, all the googling I did just confused me. Grin I might just go to a Podiatrist instead.

He's doing good now, not sure what pills he takes but it's working. It's hard for him to do the exercises (he's 70) but he does a little every day.
