Cheaper food ideas.

Before being diagnosed a few months ago, I was moving away from eating meat, but dropping carbs has meant increasing proteins.

I find meat / fish really expensive and my budget has now tanked. I need help with economical ideas please.

I'm happy to eat simply, I would prefer to eat twice a day, maybe 11/7, but my work hours don't suit that.

I now have egg on toast / ryvita for breakfast.

A chicken salad for lunch. Sometimes a ham sandwich.

I need help for cheap family dinners.

I've dropped fruit, it wasn't suiting me, and I struggle with the idea of eating full fat foods. In fact I find eating eggs every day a mental struggle.

I would be grateful for any ideas suggested.

I think that the mental aspect of changing a diet is really important.

You can eat low/lower carb and be vegetarian. There are many recipes online.

I often have Greek yoghurt, berries (use frozen) and nuts for breakfast. Low in carbs and keeps me full.

Fat is not bad for your body, in fact it’s really important. It keeps you full longer and blood sugars stable - you will eat less.

I also make chia seed pudding, low carb waffles and pancakes for breakfast.

For dinners, try tofu and use eggs. Lots of green vegetables on your plate!

Buy a meter. You might find in the evening you can eat things like chickpeas or lentils. I find my body uses insulin more effectively in the evening.

Do you have a metre? That will help you work out what to eat.

Have you considered an appointment with a dietician? If you can't see an NHS one, I'd recommend Sophie at City Dieticians - she helped me with lots of IBS and migraine issues, and I know she's working online these days.
