My daughter is 9. (Almost 10). Doctor wanted me to monitor her blood sugar at home over a few days due to her suffering from recurrent thrush. I can’t get through this morning to gp as lines are busy (I’ll keep trying of course )
But in meantime was looking advice as every where I seem to read is saying her sugars indicate ore diabetes? Just really wondering if anyone trained in this area and would know and gimme some advice on the next steps to expect from doctor . She’s 9, very thin, drinks a lot, always looks dark/red around eyes. She hasn’t had any sweets or sugar from Friday

Her morning fasting blood glucose is never below 6.6mmols

Her pre dinner was 7.9mmol. And 2 hours later pre bed 7.1mmol (I can never get an after breakfast level as she won’t eat in the morning )

I know these levels are ok for an adult but unsure how concerned I should be for a child

Any helps would be great

Here are the normal ranges for blood sugar levels in a child.

I'm not medically qualified but hopefully those charts will give you some reassurance. Good luck with getting through to the Dr!

Those levels are fine, keep monitoring though.

I’d keep monitoring, as you say her levels suggest pre diabetes, which in a child is likely the early days of type 1. Thirst, weight loss, frequent urination, tiredness are all signs, as is her recurring thrush. A single reading over 11 mmol is diagnosis, and fasting blood sugars should be below 5.5mmol. Don’t hesitate to seek further advice from GP/A&E if she deteriorates as it can escalate quickly if untreated. Obviously I hope it’s not diabetes though. Best wishes.

Thank you all for ur help and advice. I got through to my GP and they are also concerned and are going to bring her in for a blood tests and have advised to continue to monitor :) I hope it’s not also but if is I’m glad it’s been picked up early and I’m surprised at how well she’s taking the diet over haul

Readings do sound a bit high and the signs of being thin and drinking lots so point to it so good they are assessing. Would be worth testing 2hrs after eating also. Have you had results already?
