Type 2 diabetic here. I definitely would recommend reducing carbs. All carbs even whole meal ultimately convert to glucose just more slowly than refined carbs. I try to avoid carbs other than those in veg and some dairy and it has reduced my HB1ac since I was diagnosed. Your body needs fat and protein as it can’t produce these whereas the body doesn’t need carbs to produce glucose ( it’s just easier for the body). I don’t do Keto as don’t think I could stick to it long term. I drink stacks of water and veggies for fibre and actually feel a million times better since changing diet. Its worth buying a meter and testing after eating carbs to see how this impacts blood sugar levels....

There are essential fats and essential amino acids - you need these to survive. There are NO essential carbohydrates that I know of.

It's a complicated subject, try the internet - there are some excellent videos on metabolic syndrome, DT2, insulin resistance, etc. You could look up Dr. Jason Fung on youtube, he explains it so well.
