Pump consumables and self funding

Has anyone self funded consumables for a pump? I've been on medtronic pumps of one sort or another for years, but my funding has just been refused by the CCG because they're focussing on libre instead (there are a few of us at my hospital affected, apparently!).

I really don't want to go back to MDI as it was a car crash for me previously due to extremely different basal requirements throughout the day (0.5 u/h to nearly 2 u/h), can I buy the sets from medtronic and continue using the pump I have? (Which is out of warranty and due for replacement but works fine.) Any idea of rough cost?

TIA.

I would be changing hospitals or push your hospital to be firmer with the CCG! Contact INPUT for advice - they are great at helping out. You shouldn't put yourself out of pocket.
Don't think the trust would support you with an out if warranty pump for liability reasons. Make a fuss at how you can't cope going back to MDI and if they don't help, move hospitals.

They (Your team) need to challenge the decision. Can you show you still fit the NICE criteria for a pump? It might be worth contacting your pump manufacturer helpline and explaining the situation too. They my be able to offer practical advice, it’s beneficial for them to help if it means a new pump is ordered for you.

Thanks. My team are NOT happy - there was a meeting with the CCG today, and I'm waiting to hear back from my DSN.

The bean-counters say I don't meet guidelines because by latest HbA1c was above my baseline. I don't know what my baseline is! Certainly nobody has ever told me about it.

I'm also just out of shielding, had suspected Covid back in March with associated sky-high sugars for a couple of weeks, and have been working on reducing overnight hypos with support of my dietician, which he acknowledged would increase my HbA1c temporarily...he also wants me tested for autonomic nerve damage, which was cancelled due to CV, and wanted to put me on a different short acting insulin, which again hasn't happened yet.

I wouldn't mind self funding sets tbh, I self funded libre for a few years before getting it prescribed, so if the cost is similar, it makes no odds really.

Update: Finally had paperwork confirming pump funding and confirmed all my choices earlier today :o

Review of HbA1c in a month, hopefully it will have come back down a bit..I'm told an appointment with the DSN will be "coming soon" - first time I'll have seen one for over a year now.

Now waiting for DanaRS training :o looping with AAPS is my next project...
