Just wanted some advice if I can?
DH lived in the Middle East for 5 years (he worked there) and was diagnosed at the start of last year with pre diabetes due to having a numb/tingling arm, subsequent blood tests showed pre diabetes (I don’t know what his levels were though as I wasn’t there). He was prescribed Metformin and lost about 2 stone (having a gym in the apartment he lived in helped). He went for a review before he left to come back to U.K. and was told levels were fine and no need to take Metformin.
Saw GP earlier this year here and explained about pre diabetes and Metformin etc and was told that blood tests weren’t necessary and they don’t tend to prescribe Metformin and to just carry on as he was.
Then lockdown happened. He went to GP last week due to a constant headache he has had for the last month (he literally never goes to GP so I knew it must be bad) and they did a blood test ( not with fasting or anything) and he got a letter today saying he has pre diabetes again and his HbA1c/FPG level is 42 and gave loads of advice on weight loss and healthy eating. He isn’t actually a big man and eats fairly healthily.
I don’t quite understand what a level of 42 means? I understand a bit about levels because I’m a TA and work with a little girl who has T1 so I help her with her testing but the levels shouldn’t go up to 42? And surely it should have been a fasting test?
I’m basically trying to work out how close to diabetes a level of 42 is?
