I'm going crazy with worry

My husband has diabetes type 2. He won't take it seriously enough to take care of himself. I'm so worried and scared of what's going to happen to him.

Please tell me if I'm overreacting as that's what he tells me.

He woke up this morning, he has breakfast ( shreddies with milk and a cup of tea with sweetener) and his blood sugar level is 21.

I did mine however I only had a cup of coffee and my blood sugars is 5.

He says it's because he ate and that's why.

I had to book a nurse appointment for him this morning so he gets more tablets. He ran out of tablets two months ago and when he messaged them ( it's a new system-we have to email them) he was told he not a priority and that he has to wait for an appointment when one becomes available.

I called them as I'm so nervous but he's so chilled about it.

I don't know what to do!!

We have a three years old and I'm worried he won't be around long enough to see him grow if he doesn't take care of himself.

Please tell me What you think .
Thank you

21 is really really high. It’s 3 times higher than is safe. He needs to understand that he cannot have things like cereal and milk, especially at breakfast. It’s not medically the case, but practically it’s the same for him as if he had a severe food allergy to items like that.

He is risking blindness, stroke, heart attack, amputation and agonising pain from nerve damage as well as a lot of other things. It’s not fair on you and it’s not fair on your DC. I know (from my own personal experience!) that it’s a very hard diagnosis. I know that it’s so easy to be in denial because you don’t feel ill. But the bill for those meals is coming, and it’ll be the biggest sacrifice for you all if he doesn’t take action now.

As well as going over the above, perhaps you could help by getting him interested in things he can have for breakfast? Bacon, sausages, eggs, toasted low carb tortilla wraps, peanut butter, protein bars (the nature’s valley ones are 9g carbs per bar), mushrooms, Greek yoghurt with a small handful of berries... lots of things.

I’m sorry OP because he is being an ostrich and it affects all of you Flowers

Yes, while I’m a T1 diabetic I’d never be ok with going as high as 21. I don’t like going any higher than 8. Anything over that on a regular basis and you are doing yourself damage. Also, he must feel crap with blood sugar levels that high.

Sorry but yes; he needs talking to. Very easy to ignore something that's invisible and not doing immediate damage. You are right to worry. 21 is very high and if he's sleeping all night at that level it's crazy.
