Could this be diabetes?

Hi everyone. First post on mumsnet so I hope its formatted correctly and in the right place.

I have worried for a long time about whether I have diabetes. To cut a long story short, I'm only 25 and I'm not over weight (size 6, 5 ft 4 very active with active job). I used to have an office based job after I left school at 18 where I worked shifts but could always eat at my leisure. Then I started a new job where I'm a lot more active and do shifts but quite often cannot eat. In my job role it's considered absolutely normal to delay meal times or go without food when hungry for a bit due to the urgent nature of a lot of the work that is done. This is okay, most people manage by eating when they can and I used to.. Now, I have been in the role for nearly two years and absolutely love it except for when I have what I can only describe as a feeling of all the energy leaving my body. It has happened a few times now in situations where I am making myself unsafe if I'm not totally switched on. Usually it's when I haven't eaten but I thought I'd gotten past this by making sure I always have a large meal before I go to work and have plenty of snacks. Most recently, out of nowhere I realised the feeling of energy leaving my body ( feet feel weightless, arms go cold and sweaty, vision goes entirely to darkness, breathing gets shallow ) had come back and next thing I know, I had woken up with my colleagues stood over me in a panic where I'd passed out. I got driven home by one of the people on the next shift and she is diabetic herself and raised this with me so I have started to wonder. I have also noticed that I wake up constantly when in bed to go to wee and sometimes have headaches so bad after sleeping for a short amount of time I wake up with an extreme craving for orange juice and intense thirst. I had the same thing happen again today, where I had cycled into work ( very long bike ride ) & by the time I was in my headache was so bad that I was nearly vomiting. My vision was all over the place, I could barely string a sentence together and I wasnt making full sense talking to my colleagues. One of the girls I was working with took me to mcdonalds and again, after juice and some fries I could literally feel the symptoms melt away and felt back to normal again.

Wtf is this? Is it diabetes or something else? Thanks so much everyone x

I think you need to have it checked out regardless of what it is. I recognise some things but not others.

If you can't eat during your work, can you still drink something sweet throughout the day? Like juices?

eggofmantumbi · 05/03/2020 09:51

Definitely get checked out. I had some similar symptoms at diagnosis, but not all....

Thanks so much for your replies everybody, I'm off today so I can get it looked into. I know the symptoms are not right but needed confirmation I wouldnt appear to be overreacting if i went to my GP but from all of your responses I'm not so thank you! In regards to the question about drinking juice etc we quite often can, but sometimes it's not appropriate if I'm stuck somewhere for hours where food / drink shouldn't be consumed or I cant get to it sadly which is usually when the problems occur, but hopefully if I get it looked into I'll have some solutions come my way :)
