Carbs, how many?

Hi. I have been diagnosed with type two diabetes for a couple/few years now. I hadn't taken it very seriously at all until about a month ago. Since then I have been trying the Fast 800 diet, 800 calories a day, then move on to 5:2 fasting (Next week.). I know I'm not supposed to eat carbs like cake, biscuits, white bread, rice and pasta, but I'm confused with how many carbohydrates I can/should have a day. Right now it's very low, about 20-30 max. I still plan to stick to low carbing on my non fast days next week but don't know a rough figure? One Google search lead me to from 45-60 grams of carbs per meal, and 15-30g for snacks. Is that about right?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

That is question you need to ask your diabetic nurse/ doctor. Everyone is different. Not only is it sometimes person specific it is also time specific. I’m a type 1 diabetic and need different amount of insulin for identical meals, if you change the time I eat it. For breakfast I normally require triple insulin than I do for lunch or dinner.

However, I never aim to consume more than 40carb per sitting when not pregnant. Barring special occasions. Pregnancy is different

Thank you so much for your reply @Notnowokay . Smile Trouble is with the diabetic nurse is I'm agoraphobic and can't get out to see her, and she won't do home visits. It would be handy if I could see her.
I don't know if I can eat white potatoes as a type 2?
I have bought myself a blood glucose monitor, so I suppose I could experiment a bit. Try a little white potato and then test my blood sugar two hours after eating.
Thank you again for your reply, I really do appreciate it.

My nurse does telephone and email consultations at times. Maybe ask and see if she would do that? We don’t do video chat, I just send her a picture of my blood glucose readings that I have written down and when I take my medication and at what dosage. She looks and responds in her time, normally within 3 working days. If I want a quicker answer I call. Would that be feasible, if she can do that with you?

If you going to do trail and error make sure you weigh the potatoes. Don’t rely on sight or guessing.

My Doctor insists I go and see her and that she doesn't do home visits. I have never actually spoken to her that I know of.
Thank you for the tip about weighing the potato, never thought of that. Smile
