Adenoid Removal

Hi, my 6 month old baby has sleep apnea and it's so upsetting for all the family. We went to see an ENT consultant who wasn't very supportive and said he would only begin to consider removal at 3 years old. I can see why he would say this though and it would be heartbreaking to see him go through an operation, however he snores every night and pauses his breaths for at least 5 seconds which is a concern. Has anyone else's baby had their adenoids removed before 3? Or has your baby suffered with sleep apnea? If so, how did you manage it? Any advice would be great. X

You could investigate it privately. I did look into it but never saw a consultant, think I found it wasn't too much, but we couldn't afford it. We are still on NHs waiting list. Would be interesting to know what age they would do it privately.

Have you tried turning your child into their side once they are asleep, helps my DS with the snoring.

Thank you, I may try that. We saw one privately but we can't afford the operation privately. How long do you have to wait for an NHS referral?

My child is 3 now, but only managed to get on the waiting list just after turning 3, about 4 months ago. They kept putting if off. They said 2-3 months wait in our area but apparently we get pushed down the queue for being lower priority. I mean who needs to breathe ? I don't know what high priority criteria is. It's hard as it affects our slew quality as parents worrying about them. I often hold my ear to his monitor but then have to get up and check him.

Good luck with the GP. You might get more responses if you ask MN HQ to move this to another topic area ( unless your DC also has Diabetes? ) I only saw it as I have Gestational diabetes, otherwise I wouldn't of been in the diabetes topic.
