Recommend books/tv programmes for Type 1 diabetes advice?

My Dad was diagnosed with Type 1 a few months ago. I know very little about it, but my Dad knows even less. He recently suffered a hypo and I think it's time he learns how to control it, can anyone recommend any books I can read? Dad doesn't really do books so if anyone knows of any documentaries that have been on that he might be able to watch, that would also be a great help!

Hi sorry to hear this.
I don't have type 1 but I have close family members who do and can recommend 'think like a pancreas' by gary scheiner.

Damn it, I actually meant type 2!

Well don't bother with that book!!
It's totally aimed at types 1's.

Sorry! Shame you can't edit titles

My mum has type 2 and I was pre diabetic.
I advise her and have normalised my blood sugar by reading the diabetes.co.uk website and following the advice on there.

Is your dad overweight? If he is then he may well be able to resolve his diabetes by losing weight, the blood sugar diet by Michael mosley is what one to follow.

FritzyMousey · 25/08/2017 10:50

Yes he is overweight and I also believe he could very well reverse it, but for that he needs to understand it and take notice of the doctors, he hasn't really made any changes to his diet since his diagnosis so I really want him to start taking it seriously!

Michael Mosely is one author I have been looking at so thanks very much for the recommendation.

Try diabetes.co.uk for information and advice.

Ask if there is a newly diagnosed group or DESMOND education group that he could be referred to by his GP. He will get all the info he needs and you or you Mum could attend to.
