type 1 spin, or the way forward?

Hi
As a mother of a child with type 1, I saw the following claims in the you tube video below and while hopeful/full of admiration, can't help but feel this is too good to be true.
Does anyone have any experience of a low carb high fat diet (LCHF) keeping blood sugar stable?!

I understand the less carbs you eat the less insulin you need, so the greater potential for stable blood sugars as less room for error. However this still requires careful balancing of basal and bolus insulin surely?!

The lady on her blog claims her child goes to bed on 4.4. He has fabulous HBA1c results, he is smart, he is great at sport, he gets up and rows with no food. I want so desperately to believe that I can keep my child safe from complications and all i have to do is keep LCHF. But i can't believe this isn't just spin. The weather and his general mood has to also have an effect????

I'm cautious. Have you heard of this woman? Is this clever spinning or is there real merit in this?
With such a high fat diet and lack of fruit, won't the child grow up with other health concerns?

When I was trying to get my HBA1c down so I could start IVF I did this. Never had such good sugars in my life. Every diabetic health care person I told about it was very against it though. I did miss fruit a lot.

Have had type 1 for 30ish years now (!) and have never done this - I am complication free apart from some mild retinopathy! Complication free is possible :)

Of course it works!

Carbs are just glucose (sugar) so avoiding them helps lower and ultimately stabilise blood glucose. It is a no brainer and angers me that health care professionals don't advocate this more. You can still eat tons of fresh veg much of which is ow carb so it can be very healthy.

You should be careful doing this with your child however. If you were going to commit to this for yourself that is very different but your child may be given something high in sugar/carbs one day and find himself in a dangerous position. LCHF puts your body in to a form of ketosis-burning ketones for fuel rather than glucose. This is safe with low blood sugar and for non diabetic people. However, the moment your blood sugar rises, you will go in to a state of DKA as your body is already ketotic. I hope this makes sense. Xx

Children need carbs for growth. Any dietician at a hospital will not advise low Carb diets for kids.

I haven't watched the vid but if it's low carb I remember bring told about something where T1s need carbs not least so they have a glucagon store for 'lows' in their liver. It was enough to put me off.
