Medication refusal

We’ve been asked to agree to medication being given by care home to our relative in food and drink due to behaviour changes that include refusal of important medication like diabetes and blood pressure.

Relative is declining without medication, we have seen the refusal first hand and so we agree this is worth trying.

Any tips on managing this? I know they’re having to prioritise the most important medication.

@deltapanda no apology necessary - I’m glad the brilliant @AnnaMagnani was able to see your questions and I hope this thread is as helpful to others as it was for me.

I don’t want to upset you but I had another thread after this about saying no to hospital. Our Dad followed the pattern other posters had seen - from refusing medication to refusing food and drink and we only had a few more weeks. I advocated for dignity and comfort over medical intervention.

I’m so sorry - it’s so hard to witness - but you kept him comfortable x that’s all you can do.

Thanks for your replies @FiniteSagacity, I’m sorry about your dad. And to you @AnnaMagnani, you gave the info I needed to have an honest talk with a GP at last.

Turned out he had been referred for an X-ray to check for lung cancer (?!), but today the GP said the dementia has to be seen as the main issue, he is losing his swallow and it is time to begin palliative care. it helps knowing what to expect, I suppose.
