Does this sound like a symptom of dementia?

My part-time partner/bloke has over the last year gradually become more anxious. He's at the point now where he can't cope with average, every day issues. A leaky roof, or needing to make an appointment somewhere unfamiliar, or having to find his way home from somewhere in the city without a metro station. Nothing particularly complex or difficult.

It makes him so anxious it causes him a lot of distress. I found him at the table in the kitchen, with his head in his hands, all over sending off his vehicle registration form (a really simple task). I suggested the GP and he made an appointment (he loves going to the docs so no problem with that!) and they just recommended he take more exercise.

I'm concerned it might be the beginnings of dementia. He's 75.

If he's having trouble with familiar tasks or routes, that is concerning.
Keep a log of the incidents. Get another appointment and share your concerns and the log with the GP, possibly in advance of the appointment.

I hope you get some resolution soon.

DM has dementia - nothing like this. Early symptoms were inability to follow her soaps. A type of rudeness that could be attributed to old age , that lack of filter. Forgetting where she parked her car.

Yours sounds like anxiety. Exercise has been shown to help.

It does sound more like anxiety / depression to me

But if he makes an appt with the GP they have a series of questions they take you through re dementia, if there are concerns after that, you are referred on.
