Struggling with my husband who’s had dementia for 5 years now. No sensible conversation, no help around the house or walking the dog, absolutely no interest in doing much , even loosing so much weight as not hungry so not eating much.

That must be really tough for you. Do you have any support from your GP practice? The final stages with dementia are really tough and you need to think about your own self care because bluntly, it will only get worse. The not eating and losing weight is instinctively distressing as our whole instinct is to keep our loved ones alive, but in my experience it was part of the progression. It was helpful when we accepted that and began to let go of trying to cling to normality.

That cockroach cafe thread can be helpful to look at options for support, including carers coming in to give you a break or the process of starting to think about residential care.

It's so tough, do you have family to help you get through it?
