Dale Bredesen's Protocol

A dear friend of mine is currently undergoing investigations for dementia. It’s still very early days — they were sharp enough to notice that something wasn’t quite right, and thankfully, they sought help straight away.

We don’t yet know what the diagnosis will be, but in the meantime, I’ve been looking into all the avenues out there — and came across the Bredesen Protocol, which claims to offer hope for reversing early-stage Alzheimer’s and dementia.

I noticed there are a few clinics in England and Scotland offering this approach. Has anyone here worked with any of them? I’d be so grateful for any insight or feedback — good or bad.

If you’d prefer not to comment publicly, please do feel free to send me a private message.

Thank you so much for taking the time — it means a great deal.

My dh has young onset.

tbh - imo - this is snake oil.
because if it was real - and properly proven it would be making headlines all over the world.

when you get diagnosed - you are absolutely desparate to be -
1 - wrong
2 - the one that can beat the odds
3 - cure yourself by finding something else no one else has found.

the nhs is not great. Diagnosis is slow and painful.

my best advice.
look for clinical trials in your area. They are making some good progress.

sadly we are now too far gone for these. But we have been 2.5 years into this.

keep as fit and healthy as possible.
keep social interaction as full as possible. Isolation os a killer,

sorry to not tell you more positive news

Thank you for sharing this — I really appreciate your honesty. I completely understand your scepticism; the space is absolutely filled with false hope, and it’s heartbreaking how many people are taken advantage of when they’re most vulnerable.

That said, I’m in a few of the Bredesen Protocol groups on Facebook, and there are people here in the UK actively working with some of the clinics offering this approach — both in England and Scotland. So it’s not entirely theoretical, at least in terms of access.

That being said, I’m with you on the NHS front. We’ve tried going down the clinical trials route too, but in our area they require a referral from the NHS — and that process has been awful. Glacially slow and incredibly disheartening.

I would also really appreciate hearing from anyone else who may have read Dr Bredesen’s book and tried the full protocol — particularly the ketogenic diet, the exercise recommendations, and supplementation. How did it work for you or your loved one? And if you decided to stop at any point, what led to that decision?

Still, I completely agree with your advice: staying active, staying social, and focusing on quality of life are vital — no matter the path taken.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply — it really means a lot.

I certainly think it is worth trying in terms of slowing down the progression of the disease.

I think going into this thinking that you can reverse the illness - is setting yourself up to be disappointed.

However slowing the impact is achievable. And certainly the earlier it is noticed and diagnosed the more likely you are able to elongate “good health”

but reversal is not possible at this stage. Remember - by the time you are symptomatic - the disease has been taking hold for years!

my dh and I were told we had two years left of him being “well”. And we have defied the odds in many ways. But it does battle on relentlessly regardless of our best efforts..

good luck to you xx
