Is this normal?

I've never had dealings with anyone with Alzheimer's before so looking for some advice.
MiL is 88 and has had Alzheimer's for about 4 years - lots of denial etc before diagnosis. She is currently living with BiL's family. She has fewer and fewer lucid moments but is sleeping virtually all the time. She can get herself up to go to the toilet but goes straight back to bed and doesn't come down for meals any more.
Is this normal for this stage?

Yes it is to be expected.
Does she have meal replacements and water offered to her, food taken to her if she wants it? Is she taking medication?

Thanks. Apparently she will eat a very small helping of whatever they're having if it's brought up to her and someone sits with her until she's eaten it.

They live in a big town but claim there's no help or advice available to them. I'm in a small town and there's plenty of stuff for relatives here. I want to offer advice - can't help practically as we're hundreds of miles away - but as it's my MiL I don't want to be seen as interfering or undermining what they're doing.
