dad wants to die at home. The past 2 weeks there’s been a rapid decline. No medical cause. I’m a bit lost, what to expect?

What support are you receiving? Speak to your GP because if he really is End of LIfe the GP can get you support. You might need occupational therapist (thru GP) to assess for equipment. Social services can help with carers. I would suspect that your DF is going to gradually stay in bed and sleep more. But you need medical support.

Thanks I’m expecting to be speaking to GP tomorrow. He is bed bound and having 4 visits daly.

How old? Have they checked his kidney function? That's what got my dad. It was quick, only three weeks from knowing there was something badly wrong above just being elderly.

All bloods and urine have been checked and clear, twice in the past 10 days. He has been unwell then declining for about 3 weeks. I’m expecting they will decide end of life pathway now as there is no medical treatment needed. I hope death is coming soon

I feel for you. It sounds as if he is peaceful and gradually shutting down. Our GP prescribe a whole carrier bag full of medication in case DM developed any pain (she didn’t). The palliative care team did the night shift. They are expert in reading the signs and on the morning of DMs death they told me it would be that day It is a privilege to sit with someone who is dying and just be there for them but it is very hard emotionally. I hope you have someone who can come in and be with you at least occasionally. We invited family members and old friends of DM to visit and most came on the day before she died.

Thank you. I’m aware this could go in for some time.
