Games for Dementia sufferers

Christmas is coming and as a family, we have always played games. Unfortunately Mum has Alzheimer's and can't play most games anymore.

We have found that games like Kluster, Bounce Off and Jenga are great. All are doing games where she can be helped/ advised but still able to join in and have a laugh without feeling patronised.

Does anyone have any other suggestions of fun inclusive games to play at Christmas?

I've done some online research and found a suggestion of Bingo - we have a Christmas one which might work- and Dominoes.

I also wondered about a magnetic fishing game, but sadly don't have one of them anymore.

My DM is really struggling with games now, but she still enjoys Sorry! (a form of Ludo). I don't know if that would be the same if she hadn't played it lots before, but it's quite a fun, simple game.

We could try Sorry! We have it and she has played it lots of times. I wonder about the decision making, but I guess it's quite minimal and probably doesn't affect the game too much. Thank you for the suggestion!

Yes, it worked well because the decision making doesn't matter too much as it's all largely luck, plus the kids could help with decisions without being too obvious about it ('ooh, you might want to get another piece out' or 'oh no, you're going to knock me off granny', etc). As long as your mum can still count squares, she can hopefully play it quite independently.

We will give it a try - thank you!

I am sorry to hear this
My dad has vascular dementia which is rapidly affecting him - he recognises people but very easily confused .
A couple of games I have played with him are yes / no game and a word card game where you have to make new words based on the cards in your hand .
I have wondered about ‘Guess Who’ - he may need prompts about what the response means eg which ones he has to put down !
