Alzheimer's and Opticians appointment...

My Mum has Alzheimer's and has an opticians appointment next week.

She is in the early-ish stages, so lives alone without carers, except me. Can use the microwave and kettle etc but struggles with washing and dressing for example.

She can read still, but I am concerned she will get confused about individual letters' names at the opticians. For example, what does the third line down say? AETHO. I don't know how they'll know if she can't see or can't remember the names of the letters.

Does anyone have any advice?

Just make sure that the optician knows she has alzheimers. They have ways of doing this. They can do eye tests on children too young to be reading.

As above let optician know and go into room with her so you can help with instructions /offer reassurance.
The optician was very patient with my mum when she struggled with instructions, she kept moving away from the machine where they check inside your eyes, we'd position her then she'd forget and kept moving! bit frustrating but with humour and repeated instructions we got there so go in the room to assist optician.

Specsavers will do home visits. It might be easier for her in her own home.

Specsavers will do home visits but they are hard to get. For instance they were very unwilling to come out to my 90yo Uncle who lives at home and has Cancer. They had already been booked to come to my Auntie at the same house.
