How optional is a top up fee?

My mum has been self funding in a care home off and on for 7 years.

Last time I paid the top up for her it was £30 a week, it's now gone up to £150!

I've been saving the old top up value weekly whilst she was self funding so have some money, but at £150 a week it's going to be used far faster than it can be replenished.

I know the top up isn't means tested, will I be able to say 'enough now, the moneys run out'?

Will they force me to move her if I can't pay it?

Yes of course. You can't pay out money that you don't have, especially when you don't know how long it's going to be for.

Yes she may have to move but I'd ask this again in the Elderly Parents section as I think a couple of the posters who hang around in their have been successful in refusing a move.
