Hypoperfusion - can this be some type of dementia?

Hi mumsnetters, I hope someone can shed some light into this if you have more experience with this.

My MIL has been showing signs of dementia in the last few months. she has forgotten important things in several occassions but most of the time is just unimportant things that she forgets, so at the moment the situation is not that bad and she is still doing the ususal, her life has not changed much.

She has had a couple of visits to the neurologist and had some test done (scan and bloods), stroke or brain tumour has been ruled out. She has had another test that has showed hypoperfusion to some areas to the brain. We've had access to the result of the test but not been able to discuss this with the consultant yet, we will soon. Does anyone know what can this mean whilst we wait?

Can this be something that leads to a dementia diagnosis or would most elderly people have this without necessarily forgetting things?

Thank you.
The neurologist has said that they cannot diagnosed anything based on that result, so maybe this is something to be expected in older people?
She will probably get a lumbar punction.
