How to get urgent care needs assessment?

Summary of situation - DF, 63yo, early onset FTD, condition deteriorating rapidly in last 3 months . DM, 59yo, had to give up work to be full time carer about 18months ago but in the last 4 weeks has not been coping at all well. I have serious concerns for both of them (his safety/welfare, prone to wandering 5 miles plus, increasingly verbally aggressive when frustrated or anxious. Her mental and physical wellbeing as being a carer is really taking its toll. She is also only 59 and should really
still be working but absolutely no chance of that in current situation.)

They have been waiting for a care needs assessment for about 4 months and have yet to be assigned a social worker or given any indication of date. I have reported my concerns to social services twice in the past 4 weeks but still no progress.
What on earth can I do to get SS out to perform the
assessment???

Apparently the buzzwords to use are ‘vulnerable’ and ‘at risk’. Or so I’ve heard.
Good luck.

My husband has dementia and I have had nothing from anyone for over a year until I contacted Care and Repair team recently for hand rails. (In Wales) and since the young lady came here things are happening at lightening speed. Ocupational therapy came and she has really moved things along, I have Social Services and Physio coming this week, a commode and pants and pads arrived today, home visit for flu and covid jabs. I also didn't know you can apply for a water discount if you have someone with incontinence.
I was also told those are the buzz word above and don't be afraid to ask once you have their attention.

So this was me last year , the only way I got them to listen was to call ooh ss help desk on a weekend and tell them mum had threatened to kill someone ( she had written it down although I don't think there was an actual intent ) .

I couldn't believe how quick they came . So my advice is to ' find a similar reason ' .

The thing is you will never get to the top of the care assessment list if you are over the financial threshold .

Not once have I been asked about my financial situation and was told I would be so maybe SS will ask me when they arrive but at least I am on their radar now.

Ss are the ones that can help and you need to bump your parents up their priority list by using some of the buzzwords already mentioned.

adult at risk is a good one, vulnerable adult, safeguarding concerns, carer burnout all carry a good weight.

Your DF needs a care needs assessment and your DM needs a carers assessment.

Is your DF under the care of a memory team or (even better) a specific team for people with Young Onset Dementia? If so get back in touch with them and explain the situation, it sounds as if your DF would benefit from a reassessment from them, they may also have support workers who can advise re: benefits, support in the community etc

@Carpediem15
It's the patents financial situation and it's the first thing they asked me 🙄🙈

We've never been asked about finances until after the assessment in 2 different LAs.

We rang 111 at the weekend and asked for advice as DMIL was showing signs of Delirium. She already had Vascular Dementia but started to think that people were trying to break into her house and kill her, so she kept packing a bag and leaving the house.

111 told us that she needed checking out at A&E. she was admitted and went from Hospital to a Care Home.
