Dementia & Alzheimer's

Mum's eyesight is gradually failing but she can choose not to take her eye drops

After an assessment today, I was concerned to hear that Mum has been reluctant to accept her eye drops to keep her Glaucoma at bay. Even though she has very little capacity, and is under DOLS, apparently she has the right to refuse to have her eye drops put in. She has always been touchy about her eyes, but she was also 100% dedicated to taking her drops before the Alzheimers took hold. Now she is only accepting them on some days. She will gradually go blind, which will not increase her quality of life.

Has anyone else had any experience of this situation?

No but I can imagine how upsetting that must be. Dementia seems to always find a new way to be cruel doesn't it?
