Hi

My elderly parent is becoming confused about things and is having hallucinations. I suspect she has dementia. She can still cook and clean and is better at certain times of the day.

She won't agree to power of attorney and won't go to the memory clinic.

I am going to speak to her GP soon. Can anybody advise me what sort of medication might be prescribed?

I don't want to have to go to her house twice a day to get her to take medication. It's not feasible from a Covid-19 point of view and because of my work commitments.

Hi there I am new to this as my dad has only just got his preliminary diagnosis of dementia this week but from what his consultant has told us we still have a long road with different scans and blood test so that he can get the best course of treatment to try and slow the deteriorating factors. Someone i know her mother gets a patch once a day and some tablets so maybe it would be wise to speak to gp and social Carr to see if they can arrange a carer or community nurse to pop in and help with medications?

I went through the dementia diagnosis process with my dad. It involved a visit to the GP for them to administer the memory test, an assessment at a dementia day care centre and a CT scan. I would prepare yourself for this to take a while. You don't tend to get tablets prescribed till you've gone through the steps that lead to a formal diagnosis.

Who else does your mum trust in her social circle? I would work on teaming up with them to persuade her that it will help to see the doctor.
