Mum crying, emotional and feeling depressed

My Mum was finally diagnosed with Alzheimer's last September - she is 73. She'd not been right for a couple of years. Along with all the classic symptoms she has started to cry a lot and is quite depressed. She lives with my Dad and he now has power of attorney over all her affairs and is regularly in touch with Mum's doctor re treatment. She has been prescribed two different types of antidepressants but refuses to take them (or take them regularly) as she says they make her feel 'peculiar/unwell'. She also has these patches which she wears every day although I'm not sure what these actually do. I feel my Dad is struggling a bit - lockdown hasn't helped - and I'm going to step in and see if I can get things sorted. Has anyone else experienced this with a parent? Has there been a particular drug which has worked? Mum also has osteo arthritis and sciatica so she's not in the best place. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My mum is very similar, she gets very upset, we have good days and bad days but on bad days she cries a lot. I have no advise really. Antidepressants have helped to a degree, getting out helps my mum, obviously trickier in lock down. It's rubbish., hugs

Me too. Mine does better with routine and company. It does go in cycles, so hope it improves for her.

Thank you. This disease is completely heartbreaking isnt it? My Mum ran several businesses, a home, brought up two children, did everything for my Dad and was President of her local residence association. Now she cant even use the cooker. Dad is taking her for a potter around the shops on Monday and I'll go and spend some time with her at the weekend (I am a single parent so my parents can be in my social bubble). Hugs to you all X

Some patches are prescribed to help with incontinence - which is common with dementia
