Personal care in the home

I feel a right idiot at the moment . My mother I believe has slight dementia probably caused by parkinsons . Everything seems to have been a fight . Diagnosis treatment , funding. Everything .

Recently she had had a very bad patch and I had been trying to get both parents help in the home and at last they agreed but there was a waiting list to be assessed and. As things were getting worse I found ( by recommendation) a local lady , who is self employed , for personal care and general help and companionship . It was only put in place about 10 days ago and we are still sorting paperwork etc. But my mum is much happier and it’s such a relief . But now all of a sudden social services have woken up and have also been to see her and said they will provide a bit more funding for help . But they said this lady must be registered under the quality care commission ? Or we can’t use her ? It seems she isn’t and I feel such an idiot . She said she is going to check on Monday what she has to do but I am dreading we are going to have to start all over again . Anyone with any experience of this ?

I would have thought you could use who you like if you're paying for her, she'd only have to be registered if the Council were going to pay for her.

I'd keep the lady you have found, and use the council funding for more traditional care tasks - perhaps getting your mum to bed or up. My parents have an independent carer and she is so much more than a carer to them - she pops in if they aren't well, is there when one is discharged from hospital (even late), brings them home cooked meals 'when she's made too much', and much more. Agency carers (who they've had in the past, and will if they need multiple visits a day) just don't form the same relationship and don't have the flexibility to do more if necessary

Thank you . I did not realise I could do that . I looked at the qcc site and it was confusing . It seemed to say if the person was self employed and in fact anyone doing any part of personal care they should be registered? But if that is not the case I could keep her for less hours
