Alternative therapy for Alzheimer’s

My stepmother has rapidly advancing Alzheimer’s. She has been in a care home since my father died last year. I know there is no cure but does anyone know of any centres or institutions which offer radical therapies? It just seems to be accepted that she will be on medication and will deteriorate. I should add that the care home is a good one and there are regular activities and stimulation. She does lots of repetitive behaviour and doesn’t really recognise people anymore or have any understanding of her illness. She is only 70.

If there were any treatments or therapies that could help Alzheimers, I'd think everyone would be shouting it from the rooftops! Sadly there are just some things that we don't know how to help yet.

Apart from mentally stimulating them there's nothing you can do to prevent deterioration but music can work to calm and reawaken memories. It's probably the cruelest disease, and 70 is young, hugs to you allThanks

I have seen a very interesting study on a very strict keto diet but it would be pretty hardcore to try and enforce this on a dementia patient.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I have seen a YouTube video about coconut oil which was interesting but as you say if there was anything proven we would all know about it.

I read something about infra red light therapy which some people claims work. I spoke to my relative's consultant about this and he was a bit sniffy about it. He said it might work short term but the cost (commerically) doesn't justify it. If you google it there are people who have made their own treatment methods using infra red light.

Sorry but this is nonsense because of the need to have legal and regulatory clearance via drug trials and the lack of investment by pharma companies in Alzheimers treatments.

There are plenty of trials going on that are perceived to work but the problem is that most of them are double blind so you might be signing up your relative to taking placebos for ages.

Infra red and laser treatments are also cases in point. Every so often there will be a "mice respond very well to this and it looks like a cure is in the offing" but followed by "it will be 10 years at least before this gets anywhere near mainstream human use".
