Meds for Parkinson's?

DF has recently been diagnosed with a type of Parkinson's and given a dose of medication. Does anyone have experience of the effectiveness of such drugs?

It's hard to tell what he is on from your description. He has "a type of Parkinson's" - what type ? There are about 6 different types,. And you would need to find out what medication he is on.

There are lot of different medications and nobody would get "a dose of medication". The meds are normally taken every few hours, not once. They can be very helpful, but Parkinson's is not a simple condition and you can never generalise about how their treatment will work.

It would be useful if you had a good talk to his doctor and found out exactly what sort of Parkinsons he has, and what his prognosis is. Sorry to be unhelpful but there are many variables with this nasty disease.

My Dad has Parkinson’s. He started on medication. He was a bit better within a few weeks - they have to increase the medication gradually. Then when he went up to the full dose he was suddenly loads better. He’s maintained that improved level for a while (over 2 years) although we’ve seen a gradual decline more recently.

What medication has he been prescribed?

Thanks for the replies.
Will ask the name of the meds.
I think he's at very early stages.
They've put him on a tiny dose to start with because they don't want it to clash with other meds he's on.
I have just been told he's got a "type" of Parkinson's - my mum attends his apps so it's what she decides to relay. She gets in a bit of a flap if I question her too much. Don't want to stress her out as she's his main carer.

So have found out a little more... apparently it's A-Typical Parkinson's and he's taking small but increasing amounts of CoCareldopa. Does anyone have experience of this? Or know any good sources of information as to what to expect?

Ldopa was one of the first drugs used for parkinsons and had a dramatic and positive effects on some people - this drug could be a derivative of that. There are a number of good meds for parkinsons. have a look at the Parkinsons society website - they have some great info www.parkinsons.org.uk/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzumx2buE3gIV6p3tCh258wVQEAAYASAAEgIDkPD_BwE
