Types of supported housing

Dm has a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment but has recently got a lot worse. I'm at the point if wondering how long she can cope at home. Df died of dementia 5 years ago so she's on her own. Shes phoning me to visit every day at the mo as she feels 'muzzy'. I'm not sure if she's taken meds properly either. I only live 5 mins away but have a baby and a toddler and work so just dont have capacity to offer more care.

Shes 78 but physically able. It feels too soon for her to go into a nursing home, but sheltered accommodation maybe not enough eg she could still forget tablets, leave oven on, get confused in the night. Anyone have any advice? Living with us is not really an option

My mum has a carer who visits her (three times a day). The carer insures she takes her medicine and prepares her food. You could have a 'red button' so if she needs help in the night someone is on call?

Or check out extra care housing schemes in your area. Self contained flats but care staff on site during the day. Might be suitable?

I second extra care - there are some HA's who specialise in this field - Housing21, Hanover but not limited to those providers - other HA's will provide similar... If you want to PM which area you are (roughly) I'd be happy to have a look round for housing providers (work in housing)

Mha and st John's are fab. They are charity and can both help with advice and provide a range of settings. Non profit and high standards

Thanks so much all. I'll google extra care housing (myrtle - we're Stockport/ cheshire/ derbyshire border). I just can't face going through all this again like we did with my dad. Been trying to get her to the gp today along with a poorly 1 and 3 year old and feel a bit defeated - and guilty about my lack of patience - so lovely to have some helpful replies.
