Car window sun screens

Does anyone have advice on the best (in terms of utility and value) sun screens for a car rear passenger window? My experience of the internal ones is that they are neither robust, nor very efficient, and don't allow windows to be rolled down without a load of faffing about. I've seen some which seem to fit like a glove over the frame, but not found a source for these and would welcome comments from anyone who has used them. The vehicle they need to fit is a Peugeot 406 estate.
Thanks guys!

Helloooo Dear!
We started with a black twinpack from Mothercare I think, rectangular. They were alright, as the suction cups were nice and bendy, so actually stuck to the glass. We now have two funny shaped blobs with a stylised teddy bear on, with a single central suction cup (quite hard rubber too). They are as big as the window is (Pug 307) and they either fall off when the door is closed, get stuck between doorseal and car, or get pulled off by DD using the handy ring nearest her carseat.
Have seen a few cars that look like they've just jammed a T shirt and closed the door.
Whoops having just reread the OP your best advice is to flag down the passing cars with the fancy ones on and ask them!

beardydad I am to say that I am one of the ones that hangs a muslin in the window.
We've found most sunscreens to be pretty pants and ineffective tbh.
I do like the look of the ones on the rollers though, you know like a mini blind, so they don't have to be down all the time and yu can still open window if need be.

beardydad · 05/05/2009 21:24

In my defence may I point out I neither chose nor paid for either sunblind?
I'd be happier with a something-jammed-in-the-window to be honest...
Or tell them to wait a while and the car will go round a bend and they won't be hot any more?
Does anyone else keep a stick in their drivers' door pocket so at traffic lights they can gently push their dc's head back when it lolls forward?

Washersaurus · 05/05/2009 21:35

They are all rubbish in our experience, and we have tried loads...except those window sox that you mentioned.

littleboyblue · 05/05/2009 21:37

we haven't reached the stage where there's a massive fuss from ds1 yet, he's 21 months.

Haribolicious · 05/05/2009 21:50

LOL at beardydad.....great idea (Haribo shuffles off to find a suitably long enough stick - will be careful to sand down so's not to spear or splinter DS when pushing his head back with said stick )

Washersaurus · 05/05/2009 21:57

Obviously I'm not a dad btw , I was posting on behalf of DH, who will not post on here for himself.

SOLOisMeredithGrey · 07/05/2009 15:44

here you go...window sox

SOLOisMeredithGrey · 07/05/2009 15:44

I don't have these, but friends do and love them.
