He is getting a bit bored while I am MNing and he doesn't feel like attending to any of his myriad hobbies at the moment.

I suggested he lurk on MN but he's looked scared and gone...

My question is, do you look at / post on any dad specific forums, dad info etc? If so, what are your recommendations?

Thanks!

Reading individual dad-generated blogs is quite interesting, in my opinion, but from my limited experience of dad-forums, they're too spartan and too infrequently updated.

Mumsnet is good because it has critical mass: enough people to discuss enough topics.

I wish more people would discuss football within Mumsnet's dadsnet section, but apart from that I'm quite content posting and lurking here on mumsnet.

I mean, can you believe no-one's talking about this week's Champions' League?!

BCNS · 16/04/2009 22:12

urmmm .. yes I can believe that no-one is talking about the CL .. but H looked half interested when I read this thread to him.

What PadDad said - the dads-specific sites don't have enough punters to make them worth reading. To be honest, my view is that there's more interest for me in general parenting rather than anything particular about being a father if you see what I mean.

PadDad · 16/04/2009 22:25

I presume (because of the name) that many men will not realise how much other stuff is discussed on this site, other than parenting and women's plumbing issues . . .

Three English clubs in the Champs Lg semi finals - again.

Could have been four if Chavski and Liverpool hadn't been drawn against each other, and fought to the death in an absolutely stunning match.

Meanwhile Ronaldo and Theo Walcott scoring amazing goals to set up an all-Premiership semifinal.

Thank you kindly dads.

I will pass this onto DH!

I suspect he will stick with the fascinating websites he likes which talk about how best to paint little warhammer figures.... Don't ask... (and no he's not 14...)

Love to discuss football with you PadDad but I'm a Newcastle fan. Watching proper football makes me depressed.

Snorbs · 18/04/2009 00:27

I, too, would love to discuss football but I always quickly end up gnawing my own knuckles off in boredom. I think it's some kind of allergic reaction.

thumbwitch · 18/04/2009 00:30

pmsl snorbs! Me too.

I was just checking this thread out to see if I could persuade DH to have a go on MN - he loves football, despite being Australian - his Dad was Irish so used to get up at 3am to watch the matches live on tv so maybe that will be an incentive to him! He always wants to know the latest AIBU topic that I'm posting on and gives me ideas for ones of my own to start.

PadDad · 18/04/2009 05:54

Barcode, how can you be depressed when you have the Messiah?

I'm ecstatic he's not on MOTD.

PadDad Thu 16-Apr-09 "I presume (because of the name) that many men will not realise how much other stuff is discussed on this site, other than parenting and women's plumbing issues . . . "

What a great line

Following PadDad's comment - my DH is convinced that all women talk about is makeup and periods. He slightly amended his view when I became pregnant and started visiting MN - he now thinks we all talk about makeup and not having periods... Grin

He could have a look at b3ta.com. Some of it is a bit laddish/extremely inappropriate humour (especially the chat board), but the question of the week section is brilliant, the image challenge a mix of funny, talented things and aforementioned inappropriate humour, and the links in the newsletter are often good.

It's a bit like mumsnet in that posters are generally literate and there are no user pictures/signatures/ticker type things on the talk boards themselves (just the pictures on the image challenge) and the QOTW frequently has both heartfelt, moving posts, and hilarious ones.

It's worth checking out anyway :)

I don't even like football.....Blush
