Could insufferable Jeremy Clarkson in the Sunday Times be right?

"... I have decided there is a simple answer to every choice we face in the world today."

He plumps for France as the holiday destination, football as the sport, and bacon and eggs as the food.

"Brand of television? Sony.
Music? The Stones.
Pin-up? Carla Bruni.
Religion? Buddhism.
Phone? IPhone.
Newspaper? The Sunday Times..."

What other choices are there, and what are the simple answers?

Film?
Sweets?
Jeans?
Dessert?
Drink?

Not one written by him at any rate.

I like Jeremey Clarkson, he talks good old-fashioned common sense.

georgimama · 19/03/2009 09:25

Well, some of his comments have a certain barbarous wit about them, but you would hardly chose one of his anthologies of bon mots as the definitive work of literature, would you?

Film? The first Rocky film.
Sweets? Liquorice Allsorts
Jeans? on a man - 501s. On me, best not.
Dessert? Sticky toffee pudding
Drink? Sherry
Book? Middlemarch

Oh dear God I agree with Clarkson about something - the iPhone. What have I become ?

Film has to be The Godfather Part II. Sorry, but it's much better.
Drink - G&T
Sweets - Lemon Bon Bons
Dessert - Agree, chocolate mousse

Book - there isn't a simple answer - Jezza's wrong here.

How about takeaway? Has to be Chinese.

Since I am not a simple soul, I do not have simple answers. But even if you do have an answer it is only for a specific situation and a specific point in time. For example, taking the iphone as an illustration, I heard recently that there a problem with v3 and they are recommending that people wait for the v4 instead.

Considering that this guy makes his living out of saying "shall we have this car, or this car, or this car, ...?" and the three presenters of Top Gear never agree on anything, I am a little surprised that he advocates this POV. Is the BBC threatening to axe the series and he is taking this attitude as a pre-emptive 'job done' stance?

He is right, though. JC is always right according to, erm, JC.

It would make life a hell of a lot easier. Often feel that I have too many ruddy consumer choices. I don't want to have to work out which account or utility company offers the best deal, or stand in the supermarket bewildered by 1001 brands of the same stuff. It takes time and mental energy.

the choice thing is most extreme when it comes to sanpro, imo.
wonder what his view on that would be?
