Can you blokes help me with this one?
I'm Soooo bored at work and home. I need a hobby to give me a little mental break. I used to go out a lot but....you know the rest. We have a tiny house, 2 bedrooms with a medium sized garden. So if I took up sewing, painting etc... I would have to put it away every time I need to do anything else like eating.
We have a large shed. Do you think I could make it into a warm, cosy, hobby room for the family? How would we insulate it? What should I think about and/or avoid? Anyone give me some tips?

Is it Concrete/Brick/Wooden shed? Rough size? Easy to make it into a hobby room but how comfortable do you want it to be?

Easy insulation is polystyrene or Cardboard boxes 'stapled to the wood panelling', or old carpet remnants glued to the walls, but this raises fire risk questions if you are going to put a heater in it.

It Wooden shed. I want it to be comfortable and pretty. (I'm a girl of course I do) Someone on the Arts and craft thread. linked me to a green house heater which has a low wattage which will stop things becoming damp. She also pointed out some great insulation. Now I could cover that in hard board? Would a sewing machine go rusty in a shed? What else do I need to think about. Should I put lino down then an old rug?
What do you think fellas?

imho a sewing machine that is used often will generate its own heat, so when you put the cover on it, the latent heat should stop any rusting of the stainless steel parts

Lino on the floor is probably a good idea to stop the heat loss to the ground. The carpet will probably become damp without ventilation but the heater you mentioned may combat this. Bubble wrap, lambs wool, old newspaper anything may work as insulation. Then simply cover with cardboard/hardboard and paint to the perfect shade of ??

My experience has been that for a wooden shed, used to escape the drudge of the day and sampling homebrew , you need jumpers, a good source of light and some music!! No matter what you do, its a comfortable escape ;)

Thank you White crisp, I've have had a chat with DH and he is keen on the idea. We are going to insulate the walls then he's going to tougue and grove over the top. He is going to build another small shed for tools, his and mine (him =DIY, me=gardening DS both and paint) Get rid of an unusable work bench(I'm not to good at buying things on the internet ) Then get a large charity shop kitchen table. I think I've just given him a really fun project that he will spend all year making for me. ops!
