Birth present for my other half

RabbitWrangler · 09/11/2008 22:30

Am after a bit of advice

I feel I should be getting my other half a nice present for giving birth to our first born

Did any of you do this? What did you get her? Or get asked to get her?

Blimey, I missed out on this trend...

Being waited on hand and foot was good enough for me

mankymummy · 09/11/2008 22:32

um.. sorry lady poking her nose in here...

i would say best present would be a voucher for a massage and 2 hours off of being a mum, for her to take whenever she feels she needs it.

how lovely are you though... thinking of a present for her...

Anifrangapani · 09/11/2008 22:33

Doing the night feeds as soon as you can

Flier · 09/11/2008 22:34

Iknow of some who receive an eternity ring, or a thankyou card, or flowers, or a beauty treatment.....none of which i rcvd, of course

girlandboy · 09/11/2008 22:37

Diamonds, gold, rubies, emeralds etc etc etc.

I myself got a copy of the Times, because it would be nice for the baby to read what had happened on it's birthday when it's older!

Wasn't impressed.

sheilatakeabow · 09/11/2008 22:37

There was a mums discussion hjere a couple of weeks back, and from that, I think a balloon with 'It's A (insert gender here)' was a possibly tongue-in-cheek-but-cute-nonetheless winner. And food

elsiepiddock · 09/11/2008 22:39

Jewellery - she will love you.

And wait on her hand and foot.

Congratulations.

anyfucker · 09/11/2008 22:41

eternity ring is traditional gift for wife for first-born son

I am a traditional girl at heart

Spidermama · 09/11/2008 22:41

DH was unaware of this tradition too.

He did, however, get me some excellent films to watch while I sat there breastfeeding for hours in bed.

RabbitWrangler · 09/11/2008 22:45

By 'eck that was quick! Thank you for the lovely replies

I was going to get her a locket with space for a picture of the little 'un but got knocked back on grounds of cost (It was £300+)

@Anifrangapani - she's breast feeding so am out of that for at least 6 -8 weeks. Shame really 'cos I'd love to help with that...

The food requests have been made; She's got gestational diabetes so I've got to be there on day 3 with goats cheese pizza!

you can get lockets for less than 300 quid, nice ones in beaverbrooks and the like for around 100 quid or even less if you buy silver (which IMO is prettier)

that is a nice idea actually

StubbleOnChin · 09/11/2008 22:58

imho, constant support and the little gestures speak volumes. Obv the one big gesture is paramount, which i am sure you will make and know when the time is right. bestest luck to you and you're fanily.

princessx2 · 13/11/2008 14:11

RW

When I had DD1 my DH bought me a pamper day. I too was breastfeeding and so had to wait for a while but it was sooo worth it - she would appreciate it hugely.

MrsBadger · 13/11/2008 14:14

sky + or PVR (the freeview equivalent)

I was given a pair of diamond earrings (which are lovely and better than a ring IMO) but the PVR was more actual use

savoycabbage · 13/11/2008 14:20

Sky + is far more use than diamond earrings

My dh got me shoes as I wanted to feel like a person again but I was to huuuuuge for anything else lovely.

Would have asked for sky= though if I had thought of it.....

ihavenewsockson · 13/11/2008 14:22

i got an eternity ring and lots of waiting on hand and foot.

RabbitWrangler · 15/11/2008 01:09

Thanks all.

@princessx2 what does "RW" mean?
@StubbleOnChin - thanks for the kind and positive words; the Nipper is being induced on Thursday

I've just got my credit card bill which, with all the pre-baby stuff on it, will probably mean that I won't be getting her anything now!

The pampering day sounds good - might ask if her best mate wants to go too

Are you having a bubble? She gets a baby, what better present could she need?

DL.. DH didn't do the evening shifts after work to give you the break [boo hoo - non condascending]. After a day at work it was nice to be with the newest, to share the joy and to unwind and evaluate... well nothing... to just be!
