Hi - trying to do some research on air conditioning units to keep our toddler cool during the summer months. Do people have any experience or can recommend a certain product? Thanks

YES!!!!! But probably not good for electricity bills etc 🙈

I have a portable AEG one for when it's too hot - life saver!

I've got a cheap portable one for when it gets silly hot. Works well but loud.

Properly fitted AC is very cheap to run in the UK as it's rarely that hot outside so it will just tick along!

Portable units are always less efficient, noisier and more expensive and they draw hot air into the room.

The portable units will be a lot noisier than you expect!

That being said, in a hot bedroom, run for an hour before bed with the hose vented outside through a window they can make a huge difference.

By the time the room warms up again hopefully you'll be asleep.

We use ours about 10 days per year though so up to you if you think it's worth the space and expense.

Game changer for us. Keeps bedroom cool in summer and cheaper than the price of a coffee sitting in a coffee shop for their aircon

Absolutely worth it, especially with a toddler at home during the hot months! We were in the same situation last year and debated for a while because of the upfront cost and energy usage. But honestly, the difference in comfort (and sleep quality!) was massive. We ended up getting a split unit after some trial and error with fans and a basic portable unit.

If you're still exploring options, it might help to look into reliable providers who can guide you through what size and type of unit you actually need based on your space. We found SoCool super helpful, they not only install but also help maintain the unit, which made it less overwhelming for us as first-time buyers. Their team explained the difference between inverter vs. non-inverter models and helped us choose something energy-efficient, which eased our concerns about the electricity bill.

Hope this helps and good luck finding the right fit for your home!
