Intro and SATS/11+ question

Hello All

Firstly, I'm glad I found this area within mumsnet so that I don't need to feel awkward asking my first and rather mundane question. Briefly, I have 7 year old twins. Both have been diagnosed autistic. One can't speak or understand anything and is still in nappies going to a special school. The other goes to his local CofE primary and not only seems to excel in some academic subjects (maths/music/computing) but I was given the really nice news today by his year 2 teacher that "the whole school likes George" ....."he is almost never on his own in the playground...." ...."he likes to help others" etc etc - really heart-warming. To me its almost amazing how the two children can be given the same diagnosis (yes, clearly of course I know its a "spectrum" but boy is it a wide one).

Anyway, I do think it is quite a shame that this site (and netmums) which are by far the biggest resource for all things kids is restricted to females only. Ok, I know that's not true as there are a fair few blokes that seem to chip in from time to time but they polarise opinion. And really that's fair enough as the site was set up as a site for mums. The big, big problem with that and the reason I've finally joined (but definitely have no plans to venture outside the dads bit of the site) is because its the only place where I'm likely to get answers to some of my questions.

So here's my question:
Does anyone know if it is possible to enter a child as a private candidate for any of the SATS exams normally taken in year 6 ? i.e. Just like with GCSEs, can any student privately apply to take a SAT in a particular subject regardless of age. Obviously 7 is way too young but just want to know if its possible to do that in the future or must you wait for year 6 and conducted by your school? Thanks a lot for reading and any constructive replies.
