So long as you both agree 100% that more dcs are OFF the agenda, it has to be a yes.

In surgery for 15-20 mins, attractive nurses interfering with your downstairs. Surgeon with a steady hand....bingo!

Maidamess · 27/01/2008 18:31

My dh had it done. We have 3 kids, knew we were NEVER EVER going to have anymore. It wasn't really painful, altho he went to his parents for a day or two, just incase a child leapt onto his lap!

He swears his todger has grown 2 inches since having it done Contraceptively speaking (!) it is the best thing we have ever done. No more faffing around, bish bash bosh!

TurkeyLurkey · 27/01/2008 18:36

My DH is a walking advert fot them! He says there was only slight discomfort, during and for a short while afterwards.

SnappyLaGore · 27/01/2008 18:40

ooh maidamess, what an erotic picture you paint

Nbg · 27/01/2008 18:47

Well i had a suprise ds2 7 weeks ago. I became pregnant when ds1 was only 5 months and we already had dd 4.

I'm not great at pregnancy physically or mentally plus financially we just couldnt have anymore children.

Dh had it 3 weeks ago. He had it done at the doctors, it took 10/15 mins and he was out.
He took the weekend off work (had it done on the friday afternoon) and was back on the monday.
All he said was that its just discomfort rather than pain. Wasn't bad when he was sat down but ached more when he was stood.

We even went ice skating 6 days after and he fell on his backside twice

bubblepop · 27/01/2008 19:12

dh has had it done. once you've decided definately your family is complete its a really big weight off your mind;no longer worrying about falling preggers. sayin that,my last child was conceived 3 months after a failed vasectomy. poor dh has had to endure the op a second time.

It means you can have as many affairs as you want with no worries about a nasty surprise from the CSA.

Pan · 27/01/2008 23:44

not an element I had considered!!

Uber

Oh wow! This is a reassuring thread. Dh is 'getting done' soon (has seen consultant, waiting for appointment now) and I was starting to worry a bit, but you've made me feel a whole lot better (especially Maidamess.. am hoping for a couple of extra inches now ).

@ Ubergeekian, though!

EricL · 29/01/2008 11:17

Nae for me.

We discussed it at length and decided that it was best if the DW was..... err.........'done'.

Reason being - if something bad was to happen in future and we were to split - she wouldn't want anymore kids as she has done it and got the t-shirt - but i might meet a woman who would want kids.

Bit pragmatic and sensible i know - but thats what we thought was best.

Plus we knew there was a good chance that she would have to have another section for the second because of certain issues - and the docs said they could do it at the same time if we still wanted.

Which is what happened.

Fizzylemonade · 29/01/2008 20:00

On the failure rate side I think the vasectomy is 1 in 2000 in women having tubes tied it is 1 in 200, yep that's 200. And with women the way you find out it failed is when you get pregnant. For men, there are other ways of testing that the vasecotmy was a success.

My Dh had the snip before Christmas. No regrets, he was uncomfortable for the operation and maybe 4 days afterwards. I watched the whole thing, only fair after he watched me have 2 c sections, and it was straightforward.

I think the worst bit is when they have the local anaesthetic injected into their sac and when they are feeling around for the tubes.

flack · 29/01/2008 20:03

Practical question: do they give the bloke any strong pain killers just b4 or after the procedure? Should I get something strong in for DH (due to be snipped next week)? Co-codamol?

Nbg · 29/01/2008 20:05

Flack, they dont give them pain killers because of the local.
My dh just had Ibuprofen and paracetamol.

He's better taking one as soon as he comes home ready for when the local wears off.

Pan · 29/01/2008 22:50

Flack - there's little pain involved. No need for the tabs - just ibprophen to assist with the swelling. Nambies moan about "the pain".
