Sleeping in a storage locker for a month 🤣

Hi all, I found a storage company called Shurgard in my local area. I work nights so I could sleep in the locker during the day for a few hours.

Do you think this would work?

I didn't plan it out very well

I don't think they'd let you do this. It would invalidate insurance. Can you afford an AirBnB?

motogirl · 31/05/2022 16:57

Airbnb, cheap hotel? If you call premier inn etc they can sometimes offer better rates for a full month. There's also companies that specialise in longer lets

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 31/05/2022 16:57

Storage unit places don't allow this so you would have to sneak around. Are there really no other options? A youth hostel with a dorm bed just till next month, for example?

TheFlis12345 · 31/05/2022 16:57

Pretty sure they will have terms in their contract preventing that but how would they know I guess? Though storage places are often very noisy with people shifting stuff constantly.

MuyBien · 31/05/2022 17:08

I wouldn't exactly spend all day in the locker. Just a few hours here and there I guess. I will check their terms and conditions as there might be a time limit

Sneaking around would be difficult. You would need to log in and out, and they have cameras. Plus not all Storage places have 24 hour access. There is no access to a power supply and light are on those switches where they turn off after a minute or so. There is no heating.

lights

IncompleteSenten · 31/05/2022 17:18

If you're there for several hours every day that might cause them to check what you are doing in there.

CoralBells · 31/05/2022 17:18

Are there toilets there?

Intrigueddotcom · 31/05/2022 17:18

Are you a parent?

Intrigueddotcom · 31/05/2022 17:19

Is this because of a relationship breakdown?

CoralBells · 31/05/2022 17:20

Where would you wash?

serenghetti2011 · 31/05/2022 17:20

not very secure you could be locked in etc toilet? Food ? Don’t think you’ve thought this out but it’s an idea I hope you find somewhere in meantime

AtLeastPretendToCare · 31/05/2022 17:30

Goodness no.

I have stuff in storage with another large storage company. It is very clear it is for storage only and that it is not for staying in.

They play music quite loud. The units don’t have roofs, just a net. They only lock through a padlock on the outside. They have limits on times of day you can visit. There is no heating or cooling.

rent a bedroom for the time you need not a storage unit.

Alwayshoovering · 31/05/2022 17:47

Just to say my husband has a storage unit with a well known national storage company, there is no signing in and out and he spends all day down there at weekends,.
As long as he is gone by close at 6pm they really do not care how long he is there for. Not everyone has a storage unit to store excess furniture etc. Its not a case of drop tour stuff off and don't come back until you are remove it.

Lots of businesses use them, people have them if they don't have a garage and have stuff they access regularly. My husband uses his to run a side business and to paint.

NellesVilla · 31/05/2022 17:52

What if you got locked in?

BanjoKnickers · 31/05/2022 17:54

We use the Shurgard near Russell Square, London. I think if you're discreet you'd be fine. There do not seem to be any checks. I often wonder what's in some of those units. I tend to imagine large quantities of cocaine, used bank notes and dead bodies Grin

Hi, do they have lights in the room and can you close the door without someone opening it?

Thanks

Hi, thanks everyone.

I can wash at work and do my business in a Tesco bag in the corner

Do your finances not make any other option possible? No friends or family who could put you up for this limited period of time? You could pay them the cost of the storage unit and at least have access to a kitchen and bathroom.
