A very random question, I know, but my husband has said he would like a punch bag. I would like to surprise him by ordering one but know nothing on the subject. Can anyone tell me what kind to get? type/make? Any advice?! TIA.

ARGOS.

I have bought one from there before. They normally have a good selection.

Watch where you are putting it though. I fixed mine in the garage directly into a roof beam because, as well as being rather heavy, they take some abuse (obviously) and need to be fixed really securely.

And space as well of course.

Thankyou, thats great. What size should I get. Does it matter if it is one of the smaller ones. Space is a bit of an issue.

Hmmm. Do I really want a punch bag hanging from our bedroom ceilling? No garage. Could I get a bracket and fix it to the side of the house? Is thaat a silly question. Or can you get free standing ones?

A 'proper' one would be hung from above so there is nothing in the way like a stand or a base to distract you.

If it is just intended for a bit of fun then you can get free standing weighted ones, or ones that come with a stand.

And yes - there are different sizes too depending on what space you have.

Having it in the bedroom would depend on your viewpoint. You tend to get yourself worked up with adrenaline pumping - so having the wife in the bed in close proximity could be a good or bad thing dependent on your attitude to aggressive sex!

we have a BOB Katherinez. It's a Boxing Opponent Buddy so it's like a punch bag in that you punch it but it's the shape of a torso. It's free standing - you fill the base with water or sand or gravel. This means it's very heavy so difficult to move therefore downstairs/garage is the best place to keep it although we have ours upstairs in our little gym on a floor that has been reinforced. I think it could survive outside though too.
We got it from EBay.

It is just for fun really and coz hes been very stressed out. He mentioned he would like one and its as much about cheering him up as it is about boxing. Did see one free standing inflatable one on the argos site. Was wondering whether they are really any good?

If it's for a bit of fun and stress relieving i would go for the BOB free standing one then.

They are quite amusing cos you can get them in an almost 'body' like shape with a head to them so he can imagine it is someone from work.

You only need to start worrying if he starts to stick pictures of his boss on the head part.....

(he might have a lapse of concentration at work and punch someone thinking he is at home....... )

If he wants a pro-brand, he should go for a Lonsdale.

katherinez · 14/06/2007 09:03

Thanks all. Will keep an eye on ebay. Is it ok to keep the free standing ones outside?

My PT, who also has one, thinks that the base will be okay outside but the torso, that comes off easily, will need to be kept indoors.

MamaG · 14/06/2007 15:11

DH bought one on Sunday from a car boot sale for £4

katherinez · 15/06/2007 12:56
