I can join in with most things women want to talk about. But the one which drives me up the bloody tree is DIETS. I've lost this amount of weight, ooh, I lost two ounces this week by eating lettuce, I'm doing the fart-plan diet, I'm doing the ryvita-plan diet.... SHUT THE FECK UP!!! Stop obsessing about your boody WEIGHT!

Any other blokes here feel the same??

I can't do diet threads, either.

I've never been on a diet in my entire life.

I remember when my classmates started getting interested in them in high school, when I was about 14, and thinking, 'WTF? Why?'

DumbledoresGirl · 05/03/2007 09:33

I am not a bloke, but I agree with you 100% Unquietdad.

But then, not wanting to alienate all dieting women out there, I have to admit I have never had a weight problem and if I had, I might be more interested in the topic. I do still tend to think though, just eat less and cut out the calorific stuff FGS!

TrinityRhino · 05/03/2007 09:34

They would annoy me too but I've not seen them

Freckle · 05/03/2007 09:35

Well, it's all well and good to think that way when you don't have a weight problem.

Some people suffer from weight problems their entire lives - and it isn't just a question of people eating too much. Being overweight affects so much of your life - health, self-esteem, how others view you, etc.

If you don't like reading about diets, don't go on the diet threads. After all, they are quite clearly headed up as being about diets as they are in the big/slim whatever category.

UnquietDad · 05/03/2007 11:13

I know what to avoid here, but was talking about real life too.

Don't object to people talking about healthy/unhealthy food, but fad diets don't work anyway, so it bugs me too - just eat properly ffs!

HappyDaddy · 05/03/2007 17:20

I sometimes like to wind em up by posting on a diet thread. "I'm the same weight I was 5 years ago".

Hehe.

HappyDaddy · 05/03/2007 17:20

It's very tempting to say "eat less!", but I don't!

fryalot · 05/03/2007 17:22

don't do diets.

get irritated by people who go on about them all the time.

get really irritated when my mum comes to stay and we have to buy weird stuff coz she's on a diet.

expatinscotland · 07/03/2007 15:01

HD .

At the student gym in Denver once, a gal came up to the fella at the front desk and asked him, 'How do I lose weight?'

And without missing a beat he quipped, 'Don't eat so much. Actually spin the wheel round on the bike.'

motherinferior · 07/03/2007 15:04

Yes, but you don't inhabit a culture in which you are largely defined by your looks and/or weight.

UnquietDad · 07/03/2007 15:22

And whose fault is that?

OP posts:
ScottishThistle · 07/03/2007 15:23

It's not your fault!...I can't stand conversations about cars!

expatinscotland · 07/03/2007 15:23

Or football.

Yawn.

UnquietDad · 07/03/2007 15:26

Lots of blokes don't do cars. Including me. I hate it when a man I don't know opens a conversation with "so, what are you driving?" or tries to negage me in conversation about motorway junctions...

I know enough about football to sound like I know what I'm talking about: "Oh, yes, it was fatal for Sven to go for the 5-4-1 option, old Crouchy stuck up there on his own at the top of the park", etc. I don't really have a clue.

expatinscotland · 07/03/2007 15:27

You could always introduce the 'Do you wee standing up or sitting down?' topic, UD.

That would go over a treat.

ScottishThistle · 07/03/2007 15:28

God yes, yawn yawn!

Star Wars! [falling asleep emoticon]

HappyDaddy · 07/03/2007 17:21

As soon as a bloke starts asking me about cars, I know the conversation will go badly. It just shows how little we will have to talk about.

UnquietDad · 07/03/2007 18:18

Do you drive, Happy?

I don't even do that. Which for some blokes makes me a complete weirdo. And probably a girl. Or a poof.

OP posts:
HappyDaddy · 08/03/2007 11:37

I do drive, yes. Love it. A good mate of mine doesn't drive, either. The main plus is that he can drink wherever he goes!

expatinscotland · 08/03/2007 11:40

Or someone who sits down to wee, UD .

I must admit, a dude who doesn't drive . . . .

Aefondkiss · 08/03/2007 11:55

I struggle to find positive things to say to people who are excited by the x amount of weight they have lost in the x amount of time, it is a subject I fail to get excited about, so I usually try and change the subject pdq.

UnquietDad · 08/03/2007 12:06

expat - why ??

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 08/03/2007 12:08

I just haven't met any blokes who didn't drive, UD, or want to.

But then, are you in London?

Maybe it's more common there?

UnquietDad · 08/03/2007 12:10

not in London, no, but am in a big city with reasonable public transport. I know (counts fingers) three other blokes who don't drive and have no desire to.
